Where to get a degree online?

Where should i get my online degree?

  • I'm lookin to get a bachelors in game and simulation programming. Can I please get advice on how I should go about doing this? What school should I go to? I need to study online because I work early in the morning untill well into thed afternoon. What is my option towards gettin my degree? Thanks ahead of time

  • Answer:

Employers value only those online degree that are offered by reputed institutes. Your degree will not be reputed if you do it from any ordinary school that is not accredited or accredited from a false organization. So one needs to opt for online school or college very carefully. Avoid getting stuck in any scams.

Take night classes instead. Online schools like to market themselves as schools where it'll be much easier to study and get one's degree. I know of someone who went for their MBA at one of the most marketed online schools, and it was almost disastrous. Forget the hype about studying at your own pace, otherwise, you will take forever to finish your degree. There is an abnormally fast pace together with too many unnecessary assignments mostly group projects. And if you think about it, it's quite difficult to do a group project with classmates who are scattered around the country with different time zones. Couple that with bad attitudes (e.g. control freaks, lazy, etc), and it is quite difficult to get projects done properly. Also instructors are hit and miss with some quite good and professional and others exactly the opposite.

Your experience of studying at an online school will depend on the school itself. I have completed my BS through Excelsior College and there was no excessive pressure or group work. In fact there was no group work other than posting to the discussion groups within 2 weeks of a topic being posted. Excelsior fully understands the kind of pressures working students are under. For me it was a fantastic experience and allowed me to work and study quite easily. The same goes for my current degrees which I am completing online. In other words, not all schools are the same in terms of flexibility and work load demands. You should identify the school that offers the courses you need and then ask them questions about time requirements e.g. * number of assignments and deadlines per semester * how long is a semester - they van vary depending on course intensity * is the focus on group assignments. If so, that can become very demanding because organising other students to contribute on time can be difficult at times. * timelines for completing a course - normally once you enrol in a course you have only that semester to complete it in. In some colleges, they will give you a whole year to complete a course, which might sound tempting but it can give you enough time to hang yourself with. * Do you have be online at specific times to meet up with other students and instructors? If so, this could be a problem. If the meetings are asynchronous, then that's fine. You can log on after work. For the best advice and discussion about studying online and possible assistance with finding a suitable school, check out this forum, which helped me a great deal. http://www.degreeinfo.com/forum.php The downside of evening classes on-the-ground is that you are likely to be too exhausted to attend because you've already been up since early in the morning working. Also, a suitable school may not be in the vicinity. Unless you are a night-owl and work best at night and there is a school within reasonable commuting distance, you should stick to the online option. Hope this helps.
