Good way to learn to read guitar music?

I have a bass guitar and I want to learn how to play it. I would like printouts with pics. Can any one help?

I have inherited a bass guitar from my grandfather. Its a 4 string lefthanded bass. I've never played any instrument before and I cant read music. But I want to learn how to use my grandfathers guitar the way he once did. What Im looking for is a self teaching guide with pictures that is easily comprehendible for a day one beginner at playing. And I cant afford lesions or to buy a book. That’s the only reason y I am looking for a free guide. Can any one help?
