What backpacks are popular for university students in Europe?

I'm studying abroad in Madrid next semester, and I'm going to need to purchase a backpack for my time there. Currently, I have a North Face backpack, but my study abroad adviser suggested to all the students not to bring North Face or Jansport backpacks, as those label you as an American and make you an easy target for pick-pocketers. I'd really like to immerse myself in the culture and blend in as much as possible. Could you tell me what backpacks most university students in Spain or even Europe in general use? Thanks!

I just wanted to say 'Europe' is not the back of beyond. I live in England and you see North Face stuff everywhere. If you think its a problem just buy a generic one, ie without a label.
