What is necessary to study abroad and what would you major in?

Should I study abroad, even though I am a biochem major????? HELP PLEASE! THANKS!!!!!!! :D?

  • I am currently a freshman in college, and I would love to study abroad!! I am thinking of traveling to the UK or Ireland. Any suggestions on which country? I prefer cold weathers! :) The problem is I'm a biochem major, and I REALLY want to graduate in 4 years, and I heard studying abroad may set me back a year or something. I really want to travel abroad though, just to get the experience and open my eyes. I should submit an application soon b/c i want to be here in the US during my senior year, so i dont want to travel then. So should i travel abroad or graduate in 4 years???? For those who say i should travel abroad, uk or ireland?? and why?? Thanks!!!

  • Answer:

Studying abroad is an amazing learning experience that looks great on a resume. Try doing a program that will take care of the general education classes like history, art, or the likes. The best way to get credits and not get set back is to do a program trough your school or trough a school that's affiliated with your school. Or you can try doing a summer program or an internship, if your school has any opportunities for that. Most universities have study abroad office and study abroad advisers- talk to one and they can tell you how to transfer credits, and how to plan your schedule. The specific details depend on your school. If you plan in advance, you can graduate in 4 years. I had 3 majors and I still managed to graduate in 4 years and study abroad my junior year- the last year was very intense and I took several summer classes, but it was totally worth it. Both the UK and Ireland are amazing, so you should go wherever you feel like going. It's really easy and cheap to get from UK to Ireland, and to most European countries, so you'll be able to get lots of travel wherever you go.

You've got to take some electives, don't you? Study abroad for a summer. As to whether it should be the UK or Ireland, the choice is really up to you. I'd choose the UK simply because my ancestors come from there, but then again, some of them come from Ireland, too.

Studying broads set me back 2 years in college, but it was totally worth it. You don't even have to travel since most colleges are full of them.

I think the UK and Ireland are both great places to study abroad, and you should do it as soon as possible before you graduate. You might never get to travel there again! You can learn about studying abroad in the UK here: http://www.studyabroaddomain.com/England.aspx And studying abroad in Ireland here: http://www.studyabroaddomain.com/articles.aspx?id=398 Good luck!

After careful consideration (knowing that I would prolong my undergraduate education), I spent a year in Europe. It remains probably the best decision I've ever made in my life. Having not been to Ireland myself, I'm biased toward advising you to go there because of the great things I've heard about the people and culture there. I liked what little of the UK I experienced, so I guess you can't go wrong. Good luck. It's a chance that I would advise anyone to take, regardless of major.
