I am looking into studying abroad in the UK?
-
I am a sophomore, and my school is beginning to have us look into colleges, majors, and jobs. I have adored England and Ireland since the moment I went to the UK a few years ago, and studying abroad has always been a plan for me, no doubt about it. I want to get a doctorate or maybe just major in psychology and I would like to minor in philosophy, possibly. Now, I have a lot of questions! First of all, I want to study abroad through my entire college career, where can I get more information on that? What schools would you suggest? I get B's and A's, but in my freshman year I had a tough time keeping up because of family issues, how will my not-so-great freshman year grades affect me while applying to colleges abroad/ abroad programs? Do you think studying abroad is the best idea? what should I look into? What schools would you suggest (this is pretty much the biggest question of mine) My school doesn't offer AP classes, will this be a problem? What are typical requirements? and what about costs? what are things i will have to pay for? and pretty much tell me as much as you can about studying abroad in the UK!? Thank you so, so much!

Answer:
"My school doesn't offer AP classes, will this be a problem?" Yes. British students will have to have taken A levels, which are at about the same level as AP classes. If you haven't studied at that level, you're going to need to apply for a foundation year. Or can you do some community college courses? "major in psychology and I would like to minor in philosophy" You won't be majoring or minoring in anything. That's an American concept. You'll be applying for a specific degree course. I'm not aware of any which combine psychology and philosophy, but you'd have to check. www.ucas.co.uk. "What schools would you suggest?" Again, www.ucas.co.uk. There are dozens (hundreds?) of universities in the UK. They all offer slightly different courses and have different entrance requirements, and they are in lots of different types of location. You need to go look up which do courses you might be interested in, and then at the sites for those specific universities.
