How do I go to university in America?

How to move to america to go to university?

  • so im 17 and i live in the United Kingdom, i have been thinking i want to go university in a different country, and i thought America. Does anyone know the easiest way to do this?

  • Answer:

You'd apply to the US unis that you like. Once you get into one, you'd apply for a student visa. This would allow you entry into the US for your studies. Your UK A levels (or Scottish highers, etc.) will work for the US. But you know how you have UCAS? The US doesn't have that. Instead, you need to go to the website of each US uni that you like, and fill out their application form there. You should also read up on what they require of foreign applicants. Some may require you to take the US's SAT exam - their uni entrance exam. Many will not, but some will; and you can take that exam in the UK. You should also apply to UK unis, especially if finances are a concern. In this way, if the US unis don't offer you the aid you need, you'll have UK unis to fall back on. Not all US unis offer financial aid to foreign students. You will need to ask each one if they do, and if so, how to apply for it.

Travel management? In university? Forget it. That's a low-level short program offering of for-profit "schools." If you want to go into hospitality, go to Cornell University's school of hotel management for a real degree. The US is, on average, the world's most expensive education. Plan on a minimum of $30,000/yr just for tuition. Average cost of 4 yrs of university for Americans is $250,000 - and that number is skewed low by those who live at home while going to community college for 2 yrs to cut costs, or go to state universities at in-state tuition rates. Plan to need at least that. You must prove you have sufficient funds for all school-related expenses, plus all living expenses (including health insurance and all health-care expenses, deductibles, co-pays, etc!), plus return transportation to your country of citizenship to apply for a student visa. Scholarships & other financial aid is extremely scarce & everyone has their hand out for it - over 650,000 foreign students in the US. You and your parents need a lot of money. If accepted at a university, you get an I-20 form from them. Take that with proof of funds to nearest US consulate in your country of citizenship & apply for student visa. Student visas are temporary NON-immigration class of visa, and you are required to return to your country of citizenship immediately upon completion or termination of studies.

Going to college/university (same thing here) is expensive. Plan on at least $30,000 per year. You would need to apply. be accepted,. prove you could pay, then apply for a student visa. You would need your A levels and take the SAT- www.collegeboard.org You should go on several different US school's web sites to see requirements for international students, how to apply, an online application, tuition and room and board costs. www.a2zcolleges.com

Under the US Visa Waiver Program, British citizens are not required to obtain visas in order to travel to and stay in the United States for a maximum of 90 days for touristic and certain types of business purposes. The 90-day stay under the VWP is non-extendable. Those described on the photo page of their British passports as being a “British Subject”, “British National (Overseas)”, “British Overseas Territories Citizen”, “British Dependent Territories Citizen”, “British Protected Person” or “British Overseas Citizen” are not qualified to enter the United States under the VWP and must obtain visas in advance of travel plans. Additionally, British citizens’ passports do not need to have 6 months’ validity beyond the duration of stay in the US. They only need to ensure that their British passports are valid for the duration of their stay. However, to enter under the VWP, their passports must contain a machine-readable zone (MRZ). The new style passports containing a biometric chip and an MRZ are the only types of passports accepted for the VWP. Those whose passports do not contain an MRZ will need to apply for visas. It is important to note that the US requires all those traveling under the VWP to provide details online at least 72 hours prior to travel, which is known as the Electronic Travel System Authorization (ESTA). ESTA is valid for a period of 2 years, or for the validity of the traveler’s passport, whichever is shorter. There is a US$14 charge for an ESTA which must be paid by credit card. The ESTA is an automated system which is used to determine the eligibility of those intending to travel to the US under the VWP. It does not, however, guarantee that the traveler will be admitted to the US port of entry. The Customs Border officials reserve the right to determine admissibility of anyone intending to visit the US.
