I am looking into studying abroad in the UK?

I am looking into studying abroad in the UK? I am a sophomore, and my school is beginning to have us look into colleges, majors, and jobs. I have adored England and Ireland since the moment I went to the UK a few years ago, and studying abroad has always been a plan for me, no doubt about it. I want to get a doctorate in psychology and possibly study philosophy. Now, I have a lot of questions! First of all, I want to study abroad through my entire college career, where can I get more information on that? What schools would you suggest? I get B's and A's, but in my freshman year I had a tough time keeping up because of family issues, how will my not-so-great freshman year grades affect me while applying to colleges abroad/ abroad programs? Do you think studying abroad is the best idea? what should I look into? What schools would you suggest And what are the general requirements? (this is pretty much the biggest question of mine) and what about costs? what are things i will have to pay for? and pretty much tell me as much as you can about studying abroad in the UK!? Thank you so, so much!

Answer:
British universities are familiar with American applicants. Their websites usually list what they require; something like 3-5 APs at grade 5 and SAT scores above 700 in Maths and Writing. If you do not meet these requirements, some offer a foundation year to bring you up to British university standard as Americans are about two years behind. Your GPA will not matter much and British universities have no interest in extra-curriculars. They want to be sure you can cope with the academics. You will study a single subject at uni and it will be at far greater depth than in America. Typically your knowledge of that subject will be at masters level, many universities will award you a direct-to-masters degree after just four years. The costs vary depending on the university. Imperial College is I believe the most expensive at around £22,000 for tuition alone. Expect your living expenses to run another £10,000 on top of that. No scholarships or loans for international students.

Above is right. Ehhhh....I wouldn't say the requirements for a humanities degree (which is what you're wanting) are so strict though...They're really not. And extra curriculars don't matter all that much since you just have to write a personal statement on UCAS.co.uk (on your university application---they all do it through here, not directly to the school like in the US) of why you would be good for the subject you want to study. Anyway, my university only made a requirement of getting a 3.0 GPA overall...so if you have that, at least, then you'll be good at most schools since I go to a rather decent school. You'd probably be asked for higher at Cambridge or Oxford though, obviously. ...But those schools are out of any international student's price range unless your parents are filthy rich. I wouldn't suggest any London universities either since it is way too expensive to live there and it is easily reachable from most cities in the UK. Look into places not-so-well-known to Americans like Norwich or Canterbury. There's tons. It sounds awesome to study abroad at first, but then you get over the giddiness of it and it's like you're living the normal life you've always lived. However, it's more easy to travel throughout Europe here, so that's a plus. So....costs. Yeah, I would say the cheapest they get would probably be around $15,000 a year. I pay about $18,500 a year. Living costs (including housing and food) are roughly $5,000 or more (at least for me and I'm a moderate spender). You have to keep in mind everything is $1.60 to the dollar here. Oh, and I'm dirt poor and affording it because I feel the quality of education here is worth my money and better. You can use Federal Loans towards it but that won't cover it all so you will have to have a cosigner to get private loans through Sallie Mae.
