How important are standard grades when applying for Universities?

Chances of getting into UofT or Waterloo Universities?

• I'd like to know what my chances are of getting into a good university in Ontario, Canada such as UofT or Waterloo. I spend my first 2 years of high school in Canada & recently we moved to Dubai so I guess I'll be spending my grade 11 year here [Dubai]. In Canada, my grades weren't the best [70's] but now I feel like I'm improving but maybe that's because I feel like school is much easier in UAE than in Canada. My marks right now are all at least in the high 80's to 90's except for chemistry [my weakest subject] which I'm getting around a 70 in it. So with English, bio, physics and math, I'm getting high 80's. Do you think UofT or Waterloo will accept me with these marks especially since I'm studying in UAE right now ? I also heard that no matter how high your marks are in uae, when applying to universities in canada and america, they remove like 5% of your average since schools here are different or easier.

  you're best hope of getting a true answer would be to email the admission services at those universities. it also depends what you're studying, as some programs are more competitive than others.
