How can I go about studying abroad?

I have a few questions about studying abroad and how can i convice my parents to let me go?

  • Ok, so I am currently a sophomore and next year I'm looking to study abroad in Europe. What would be the best place to go? I take German, and Germany does sound fun, but I really would like to go to Norway. What's the experience like? Pros/cons? And also I was concerned about clothing because I feel like those in Europe dress better than gym shorts and t shirts so what should i pack to wear? and finally how can i convince my parents?

  • Answer:

I don't know about WEP, but I suggest you check out www.best-student-exchange.com, because they have hundreds of families online who want ot exchange and you can stay in different countries with various families (like family-hopping) and best of all: the price is peanuts compared to usual agencies, because you arrange the exchange yourself and with that you save thousands of $. So I think it is the best program out there. I went to Europe and it rocked!

I went to Italy and it was a great experience...Look into AFS...they have a bunch of countries to choose from like germany, norway, and Italy, as well as a bunch of other options that may interest you. Obviously no country is going to be exactly like America in how they dress, but I wouldn't worry entirely too much, because the idea of studying abroad is to learn about another culture, not make yourself into a German. But jeans of course are an easy option. Also, the way I talked my mom into letting me go was by telling her everything that it would for me...a leg up on college apps, another language, a lot of great friends. Really, it was the best experience of my life, and i wouldn't trade it for the world. the cons where of course that it was difficult, and i missed the most important year (junior year) for taking ACTs and stuff, but what i missed, i made up for in making friends and having experiences that i never would have had. You really have to do it!

Germany is good place for studying.I think you should know that it has some strict rules. It would be a good experience. As far as i know people there wear tight jeans though not very very tight.I also think you should get some warm clothes.About convincing parents i don't know either because the same thing is happening to me with my parents. (I am sorry if there are mistakes but I from Albania)Hope it will help you.
