When is the right time to write GRE?

  • I just want to know when the academic year starts for an university in US...answer seriously please....

    Hi most US uni. have two intakes of students - Fall ( around september) and Spring (Jan/Feb). For international students who want to be considered for Financial aid the application deadlines are at least 6-8 months before the start of sems. So its advisable to be done with your Toefl and GRE atleast an year before the time u intend to join. This would give u ample time to select and apply to the uni. of your choice. Remember the better the university, the earlier the deadline in most cases.

I think the right time to take GRE is 6th sem vacation or in 6th sem itself. There are two intakes. Fall(august) and Spring (january). In india, engineering gets over in June. So, right time to go is fall. Now for fall, the admission deadline is between December and March for various universities. That would be your 7th and 8th semester. So, u need to take GRE latest by January of the year in which u wanna go in August. Now 8th semester is always veru hactic coz of submission and project. So, I believe that the best time to take GRE is 6th semester vacation.

Take the General Test in November. This will ensure that your scores will be available to meet any admissions deadline. Also, if you do poorly on your first try, you should have enough time to re-take the test in December to try to improve your scores. You must register for Subject Test approximately six weeks before it is given if you are not planning to attend graduate school immediately upon graduation, you should still take the GRE sometime during your senior year.
