I want to go to university in America?? and can i work in the uk afterwards?
-
I want to study university in America, when I leave school, I'm 17 and currently in year 12 in the UK. I was wandering how to go about that? When I should really start thinking about it, how to apply ? I also plan to study psychology, then do a doctorate in it. I was also curious to whether the system is different and if I would be able to work in another country, specifically back in the UK, having studied it in the US. I appreciate all help! and personal experiences would be great

Much depends on the type of work you want to do. It is likely that qualifications gained within the UK will have an advantage over those gained elsewhere. Those gained within the UK are more easily accredited and verified by potential employers. The field of psychology is over-subscribed in the UK. It is not an area of shortage, and you should be aware of this. I do not understand why you wish to study in the US. I assume it is simply because the country attracts you. You will not getter a better education there than in the UK (and it will cost you considerably more). If you intended to work in the US after graduation then it would make sense, but as it seems you wish to return to the UK to work I would suggest that studying and qualifying here (especially at one of our top universities, such as Oxford or Cambridge) would be more sensible.

Which country are you a citizen of? If you are a UK citizen then you need to apply for a college place and a Visa to study in the US. This will not effect any of your rights as a UK citizen. If you are an EU citizen or come form a commonwealth country with UK Visa and work permit exemptions then and then the rules are pretty much the same. However, if you are not a UK/EU citizen and are not from a commonwealth country then gaining a US visa may invalidate your UK visa and you would then have to get a new UK visa once you left the US,
