If i go to argentina for an exchange student program for the summer would I have to go to school? ?

Yes , you have to go to school or at least be registered as a student in your university as well as the university in Argentina .This doesn't mean you have to take courses if you are going there to do research .But you need to be registered as an "exchange student " in your school in Argentina .
