Can I host a foreign college student?

How can I find host families for a college student?

  • I have looked all over online for a website that can help college students find a host family to stay with. Most of them are for high school students though. I want to make sure the host families have been screened to make sure it is a safe and positive experience. If you could help me find a good website, I'd appreciate it.

    Your problem is that college and high school exchange programs are different. As a high school student, you don't pay your host family they volunteer -- and the screening, etc. is part of your program fees. You are subject to the family rules and lifestyle. As a college student, even if you stay with a family, you pay rent and while subject to certain house rules, are not under their control. Most colleges and universities have an International Student Office that helps international students find off campus housing -- often with a family which is willing to help out. The one organization that DOES have a college program is YFU (Youth for Understanding). They work with several community (two year) colleges in the U.S. Once you complete your two years, you can transfer to a four year college to finish your degree

You can't your college will either make you stay on campus in a dorm or get your own place off campus. Your over 18 so you have to live on your own. You can always live with family but if your going far away well that's not an option.
