How to quit my internship?

How to quit an internship.?

  • I'm 16 and for about a month I have been doing an internship for a small company. I want to work in sound design on films so I really wanted to do this so I could get a little bit of experience just from being there. I got it and the first few days I was on the computer with another girl doing social networking stuff and one day I got to work with the equipment but lately it's just been me in a room, by myself, adding friends to their facebook. Also they don't have me on a clear schedule. They call me in the morning saying theyre on their way to get me and show up two hours later. One night I was supposed to be home at 4:00 and they dropped me off at 10. Also I got a lot closer to old friends so I have been hanging out with them a lot and I want to hang out with them a lot. I didn't have as many people around at the start of this. I just want to be able to spend the summer doing things with my friends and maybe get an actual paying job. But I don't know how to tell them. I've never had to quit anything before. I feel like I want the eqperience but I don't want to be there as often. And honestly the past few times I've been there have been extremely useless. What can I say to them to quit?

  • Answer:

If you are doing work for them which they need by a certain date, you need to give them some notice (a week or two) so that they can replace you. If they have been giving you only work which they (not you) think is meaningless, then you can just thank them for the experience and let them know that you won't be back. You can always say that since they are picking you up and dropping you off, the irregularity of your hours are causing problems for your family.

just thank them for the experience and tell them you got a lot from it and you felt you succeeded in your goal...so, this would be your last week interning there!

Muahh!♥

Stick it out if you have a few more hours to complete, if not, just send an email telling them you don't want to complete it, and tell them why, in a very constructive manner. Then try to find a real job, so you can get paid. ;)

Anony.

This is not unusual for this industry or this size company in this industry. If you give this opportunity up you probably will not get another chance. What about asking if you can have set hours - say it is for family reasons; then you can fit in some time with your friends.
