Is London a good place to study abroad!?
-
So, I found out today that I will be able to study abroad this spring... I have always wanted to go to London and I think it would be an amazing time, but honestly I've never been so I'm not sure what to expect. I'm an outgoing 20 year old female, is London the best place to go? Safe? Too expensive? Also, I currently go to school in Boston and have lived here for two years, so I do know some things to expect when living in a city.. will it be the same? Any info would be great!! I need to make a decision asap :)

Answer:
rent, food, travelling and bills are all expensive but you get all the cool clubs, museums, cafes and shops. it's a bit of a melting pot so you can also experience different cultures here. i think it's a safe city as long as you act sensibly and be alert!

London is an amazing place to go. Lots to see and do and the night life is amazing. As for safety there are lots of issues there as with any big city so as long as you are sensible and try and stay in crowded areas I'm sure you will be fine. Buy a personal alarm for walking at night. As for expense, that would be the main draw back. It is very, very expensive. But thousands of students manage it and as long as you get a job there that doesnt interfere too much with your studies and either go into student digs or shared housing you will manage especially if you have family that will help if your ever in trouble. It would be an amazing adventure in your life you will always remember. I hope this has helped.

You said "I've always wanted to go to London" - well that says it all doesn't it? You want to go and have the chance so take it. Yes it is expensive, but the $ is strong so not as bad as a couple of years ago. Safety - it is a fairly safe city, there are areas you should not go to alone, but there are areas like that in every city. And there are precautions you would take in any city, don't wander around with loads of cash hanging out of your pockets and don't get drunk and then try to walk 10 miles home.

Why not try Cambridge or Oxford - these are the big well known cities for schools here. And to be honest both are lovely areas to study. It would be so lucky to study there and are not too far away from London. You could go down for the weekend etc.. But if your set on London it is reasonably safe. Lots of CCTV everywhere, but like any big city you need to take precautions. Don't get too drunk and make sure you order licenced taxis. London is expensive, but it is relative to lifestyle. Cheap student bars etc cater for that.

Students from all over the world travel to the UK for the education. It is a good place to learn of many cultures & gain international contacts.
