Can I apply to the UK universities and Irish ones?

Will EU students pay the same amount as international ones in a UK university starting next year (2012/2013)?

  • I was thinking of doing a postgraduate degree in a UK university (London) in the year 2012/2013. I have looked the current university tuition and for EU students it's always lower than for international ones, which usually pay twice the price. I was discussing my plans with a friend of mine today and she told me that she heard tuition for EU student won't exist next year and that all students outside the UK will have to pay the same amount as international ones. I know that some of the universities in the UK have already raised their tuition up to 9.000£ this year which is the maximum limit they are allowed to charge. But international students still have to pay twice as that. Since they already changed the prices a lot this year, it sounds a bit weird that they might change things so dramatically again next year. My question is, have you heard any plans on more tuition changes for next year (2012/2013) regarding the EU students? Please, it's very important and it might change my whole career plans. And don't answer that it depends on the university, because I am talking about a complete change of policy in the UK and not on only one university. Thanks for your time.

  • Answer:

Never heard of such plans. Charging an EU citizen living in the EU a higher rate of fee than a British citizen living in the UK would be in breech of EU legislation.
