Other than being a lawyer, what occupations can a law degree get you?

If I get a degree in law(Llb) from a UK Uni, is it possible for me to work/live in Australia?

  • I'm going to get a law degree(Llb) from a UK university. But since I'm in Malaysia its a UK degree transfer program.(2 years in Malaysia,1year in UK) So is it possible to practise as a lawyer in court/ or corporate lawyer in Australia? What do I have to do?the steps and requirements?any advice would be VERY helpful. I'm only 17,and I'm taking A-levels currently.I hope someone can show me the correct pathway.Thank you.

  • Answer:

Getting the LLB is only the first stage of becoming a lawyer. After that you need to be hired by a law firm, train for three years and pass the legal practice exam. My recommendation is to either complete the entire process in the UK or in Australia. A hybrid will be a mess even though both countries use Common Law. Once you are fully qualified moving is easier. The hardest part is getting that first job, how were you planning to manage the work permit issue?
