Student exchange in the uk?

I am 14 years old and my best friend has recently moved to california ,we have been talking about student exchange , where i go over to California for a period of time to stay with her . I have no idea what this entails or who i would need to verify this with. I would love to go , but don't know how to apply or what happens about school work , as i am doing gcse's next year?x If anyone has been on a student exchange from the UK it would be incredibly useful :) thank you for any constructive answers :)

you should speak to your teacher or go online. There should be online programs where you can have a pen pal. My friend did it once, but i don't know what website was it...help save the planet!
