How hard is it to get a school visa for the UK, and get into medical school in the UK?
-
Hello, Today I'm coming to you for help. I'm an American, living in America, who wants badly to be able to go to medical school in the U.K. I've been searching for a while now on the internet, and have so far come up only with the fact that it costs around 4000 pounds a year for medical school in Britain. Is this accurate? Also, what is the difficulty in getting into a good medical school there? Another thing I need is a school visa and need to know the difficulty for an American who usually gets 80% and above grades. Does a visa for school allow me to work? Any help would be good, and it would be great if you could provide sources.

Medical school costs British citizens resident her £4000. For an international student you will be paying £8 - £12000 a year. You would also need about the same as that to live on. You would not be eligable for UK student loans. A student visa allows you to work for 20 hours per week in term time and full time in the holidays. BUT with medicine you will not have time to work. OK now your grades. In the UK we take A Levels to get into uni, if you attend a US college with A Levels you get exemption from 101 courses in that subject. Now that is for an A Level at any grade. To do medicine you would need 3 or 4 A Levels at grade A. If you are coming from the US your high school diploma won't be enough, you would probably need a bachelors degree which includes a lot of chemistry and biology. You MAY be eligable for a medicine degree with a foundation year.
