What is a good student exchange program? (Is Two Worlds United a good exchange program?)?
-
I recently had the idea of joining a student exchange program, and I found this one called Two Worlds United. It looked amazing. It had great locations and all of the information seemed to be fine. Everything fit together you know? But I recently came across a few reviews for Two Worlds United saying it was a scam and you should "never use it or apply for it". Now I don't know what is going on and what the deal is. All the other student exchange program websites were not helpful in any way and were uninformative. So I would like to know if Two Worlds United is an acceptable program to use and is not a scam... and if it is (its a shame) and also, what would an alternative program be? Keep in mind the program I am looking for needs to have plenty of opportunity and variety. Please can anyone help me?

Answer:
I don't really know anything about Two Worlds United, but I do know that they are not listed on the CSIET list. CSIET is the Council for Standards on International Educational Travel (csiet.org). They routinely audit programs for quality. I would recommend using their list as a starting point for choosing a program. If I may, I would like to cast a vote for going with Youth For Understanding (YFU). I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer with YFU. When I have asked exchange students why they chose YFU, I get the following answers: (1) YFU gave them more bang for their buck and/or (2) someone they knew and trusted recommended YFU. 95% of the fees collected by YFU go for direct program costs (airline tickets, support in hosting country, etc.). YFU has been around for 59 years and has learned how to make exchanges successful. The main YFU website has a ton of information (yfu-usa.org), including the countries you can choose (39 this year), prices, scholarship possibilities, deadlines, etc. The site also lists the 30-some countries that do not require previous language study before you go. Check out the websites and videos. I wish you good luck no matter what you choose!

The abover answer is a good answer to your question. Just on two worlds united, they arent a scam but they are not a very reputable program either. I wouldnt trust them as far as i could throw them. Heard far too many horror stories.
