What should I buy for a French Host Family?

What is a good thing to buy from America for a German host family?

  • I am going to Germany this summer, Siegen, Germany, for that matter, and I was wondering what I should buy for my German host family. I am from the US; I'll be staying there for 2 weeks. So far I have thought of jelly bellie jelly beans ... lol O_o I need something that is really "American" and something that Germany doesn't have! Any ideas would be grrrreat!

I've found the best things are those that are related to your hometown. I brought all my host families Frango mints (back when they were made in Chicago) though you do have to be careful with food for customs reasons. You might also consider a coffee table book or some other souvenir type thing that represents your home. If your family has students around your age you could consider a DVD (make sure you get the correct region - most American DVDs will not play in Europe) or a CD of your favorite movie/music. Also, don't forget to bring photos of your family/house/pets, etc. My families were always very curious about my life in America, and because only some of my study abroads were exchanges, usually they never got to see my life the way I saw theirs.
