How much is the fare from the Philippines to the UK?

Should I go back to the Philippines to study or stay in the UK?

  • Im half filipino, I dont look Filipino at all but I was born there. Im turning 16 and would like to go to university in the Philippines. My parents dont want me to go because they say that the education in the Philippines arent in the standard of a European education. I spoke to my relatives in the Philippines and they all are suportive of my choice to go back to the Philippines, its just my mom who needs convincing. Im thinking about applying to go to UST or De La Salle. So should I stay in the UK or head back to the Philippines, I dont look Filipino but thats not a problem for me, I also have a house in the Philippines I can stay in and most of my relatives are there. I can speak Tagalog very well and I can easily get dual citenship. I really dont like life here in the UK, I miss my family in the Philippines, I cant take it anymore I want to go home!! But is it worth studying in the Philippines? My grades are average, I normally get C in Science and Maths but I get good grades on other subjects like English. Is the education in the Philippines bad? Would i find it hard to get a job if I get a Filipino education? Is it hard to get into UST? I know I wrote a lot but please help!!

  • Answer:

Education in the Philippines is definitely bad, but if you enroll in any one of the big four (University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and University of Santo Thomas), the education will be excellent. I am not sure if you will have an easy time with the subjects, but you should do well if you understand the basics. I am not sure about the difficulty of getting a job. Getting in UST was very easy for me. Staying was the hard part. I had to leave the school because of grade complications (and being slow in taking action to change courses, but I was no debarred. Debarred = kicked out because of too many failed subjects.). I was in BS Accountancy, and I had to transfer to FEU. Most Filipino companies prioritize getting new employees from the big four. The UST definitely has a good name outside the Philippines, especially in Nursing. I'm not sure how it would do if you would work outside of the Philippines.

I would go if you're sure of it, but you if you decide you don't like it there in 5 years time and have spent that time studying in the Philippines you will have lost your free education here from 16-19. My advice would be to stay here and do a course like A Levels, so you have something to fall back on, and then go over and study further there.

Hershey, it isn't any use saying you want to go back to your family. Just go. But also think a little here, after awhile you will be one of the million Philipino's that advertise to come back to the UK 'Because you miss the easy life here' There's too many people over there who want to come to England and can't because of the costs incurred. but you say you have a house over there so why wait, go but don't complain when things don't work out like you think they will, then want to come back here to 'mummy' There are too many foreign nationals who try to work our system to their benefit and therefore put an added strain on our national resources.

A diploma from a UK university will be recognized around the world. A diploma from the Philippines will not be recognized elsewhere. If you want to live and work in the Philippines that is ok, but don't forget that you also have to pass the PRC Government exam there. Some exams, such as the LET are very difficult to pass. The LET only has a 25% pass rate. UK universities do not have this problem and you should be easily able to get a job in the Philippines with a UK degree.

Since UK is a first world country and Phil is not, people easily label phil to have everythin poor, like education, etc., when in fact, when u don't have good brains, u'll not be able to enter a good university in the phil, brains over money it's how it is here, unlike schools abroad, you just need to have little brains and lots of money. There's a lot of exams in the Phil. that you have to undergo, lots of professions that has board exams for you to be recognized and licensed to do your job. Unlike in the US or UK, as long as you're there and you have money to study, you're good. Though you can't deny the fact that facilities are better in the UK, but the the way of teaching and quality, I'd still prefer in the Phil.
