Is Alicante Spain a good place to study abroad?

Study abroad in Spain. Alicante, Madrid, or San Sebastian?

  • I have an opportunity to study abroad in Spain this summer. My options are either in Alicante, Madrid, or San Sebastian. My problem is I have no idea which area would provide the best experience in the Summer time! Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

Hello! I had the same option a few years ago through USAC. You know what? In the summer, Madrid has no beach and is full of tourists. Alicante would be nice but Spain doesn't have a whole lot of air conditioning and in the summer it could be very hot. My choice was and still is San Sebastian. They are known as a food capital of Europe and they have awesome beaches, a lively bar scene! But still very walk able and safe at night. No metros needed like in bigger cities. You could even get a part time job handing out promo cards for bars in the Parte Vieja or help people who own Pensiones. I went for the spring semester and ended up staying the summer in San Sebastian and worked for a woman with a pension. I still go back and visit her every summer! You can't go wrong with San Sebastian.
