Exchange student my senior year?
-
I am really interested in being an exchange student in Germany. Unfortunately I decided this too late to apply my junior year, but I definitely want to do it my senior year still. I really don't care about missing out on my senior year, I'll already had prom and I think the experience of being in another country is worth it.. but now I have some other worries..what about Graduation Projects, SAT, College Applications?? and would i technically be a graduate from the German Gynasium, but they have 13 grades, or would all my credits from the German school transfer to my school and I would get my diploma from my HS?? ugh anyone can help!? (:

Answer:
As long as you don't mind missing out on your high school senior year experiences, I would say go for it!! Travel while you're young and don't have a job...as soon as you graduate from college, it's all over. The first thing you should do is figure out which program you want to do your exchange through and then learn as much as possible about it through their website. It should be able to answer a lot of your questions if it's a reputable program. Once you have some foundational knowledge, talk to your school ASAP. They will let you know if it is even feasible to get in all the requirements that you need and if any other students have done the same thing. In terms of the SAT, I know you can take it abroad. Check out the College Board's website, they will have info about how. Most college apps can be completed abroad as well (it's usually all online). Just make sure you get your teacher recommendations and transcript info BEFORE you leave. You most likely won't be a graduate from the German school system...but check with your guidance counselor. They should have a system in place to accommodate you. Good luck!!
