How do I go to university in America?

How do I go about studying at university in America if I'm from England?

  • I want to study at university in America, preferably california but I'm not sure where to start or how to go about it all. I've tried to do research about it for a while but I can never find anything particularly useful. Any help?

    A lot of smaller colleges give out Financial plans for "abroad" students. Many students from my college come from Asia and they are all given foster parents that they live with during breaks and they are given cell phone plans from the abroad plans. You should apply online to the colleges you want to go to, and maybe call them and talk to them about studying abroad and listen to al the advice/information they give you and they'll check out your application and decide wether to accept you or not.

Step 1: have lots and lots of money as it is going to cost you around $50,000 per year (may be more or less depending on the exact school you go to). You can't even get a visa to come here unless you can prove you can afford it.

If you can afford to pay for the tuition in America just apply as an international student and they will tell you the in's and out's on the website. If not, I suggest finding a British University that offers study abroad and apply to do your second year abroad. But make sure you really research the Uni you want to go to, you start applying pretty much as soon as you begin your first year at Uni. Its usually through ISEP which makes its so affordable and easy. Good Luck !

Your high school should give you info on this as many have relationships with US colleges. It is not cheap though. The US college system is way more expensive than the UK one.

1st go to Google and look for U.S. colleges and universities. Pick and choose.There will be application forms on the web page. Fill it out and submit.Wait for an answer.Keep trying, eventually a college or university will send you an acceptance letter. Next go online to the U.S. embassy in the U.K. Apply for a student Visa.Fill out the questionnaire and submit it.Be sure to keep a copy of your number that the embassy will provide for you. You will need this number for inquiries and follow up. You will have to fill out another questionnaire and submit it ,then go to an interview when the embassy invites you,which will be in just a few days. You will probably want to get your acceptance letter from a college or university 1st because there is a fee and time limit on the visa.

Each university has a website. Go to the site for UCLA, for example. Search for "International Students". You'll find links to the application, and info about what documents you need to send. Once they accept you, they send you a form. Then you take that to the U.S. consulate. They will issue you the visa.
