If you lived in the UK how would it be possible to get into a University in America?

  • I want to know how to get into a University in America because they are very good and they are just what I am looking fo

Hey, i live in the UK too and am planning to apply to an american university myself. So anyway, you will need to do several things to get into an american uni. 1) Take the SAT's. These are American standardized tests to help compare you to other American students. To register for these tests, you will need to register for an account for the college board website (the American version of UCAS basically). There are three tests you will need to take. First of all, the main one is the SAT reasoning test. This will be composed of a Math, Reasoning and Writing section. You will also need to take two SAT subject tests. These can be anything from Biology to a Language. However, you will require money to be able to register for these tests (there are various test centers in the UK). The tests are required by most universities and will cost $49 (reasoning) and $29 (subject tests) respectively to register for. 2) You will need a Visa, they will help you set this up once you are admitted so worry about getting in first :) 3) Pick a University. You can apply for several institutions at once. The best for an international student (which we are), you should consider the 'need blind' uni's. This means that they will admit you based solely on your test scores and not whether you can afford it or not. This is good as they will give you full need grants to help you study- they are like scholarships that you don't have to pay back- so you can technically graduate debt-free- unlike unis in the UK now that they've jacked up the prices :S However, you will need some pretty good tests scores AND EXTRA-curricular's (and sometimes volunteering too) to set you apart. the 'need blind universities that i mentioned are: Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth and Amherst. They are very selective and only admit like less than 10% of applicants. 4) When you take the test scores you will have to send them straight to the colleges- but don't worry you can retake if you have time. 5) You need to give in two teacher recommendations (the subject of the teacher is sometimes specified by the colleges) as well as your midyear report (your predicted grades basically) and maybe an admissions essay or two. 6) If you cant afford it without a scholarship or grant (which i highly doubt unless you have $200,000 lying about (£120,000 equivalent)_ then you also need to fill out a financial aid form and submit with your application. 7) Hope for the best and get everything in by the deadline! Best of luck!

I would assume all you would need is a student visa.

Take A Levels along with the SAT. http://sat.collegeboard.org/home Look at the websites of universities to view their admission requirements for international students. Be able to pay US$30,000-$50,000 per year as an international student. Apply for a student visa
