What country should I study abroad in?

Study Abroad; what country will be the best and how long should I stay to get the full benefit?

  • I am a undergrad double majoring in economics and political science. I ideally would like to go to law school and am very interested in international relations. I am wondering what country would be the best to study in for my majors and if you think that I should go for a semester or stay for an entire school year to get the full benefit of the study abroad experience.

  • Answer:

Your question is hard to answer: since you don't say what your home country is, it's impossible to know what would constitute 'abroad'. That said, the main educational benefit of studying abroad is the immersion in another culture. If your French is good, the Sorbonne provides access to a great variety of courses in one of the great cities of the world. If you're thinking of the UK, Scotland takes education seriously, and Edinburgh and St Andrews both have a great deal to offer. London has the LSE. Eastern Europe is more limited, but expanding its options, and is considerably cheaper. On the other hand, you could explore Brussels, now at the heart of the European Community. As to length of time; a single semester is too short. Go for a full year: go alone: go for it! Good luck!
