Which university to choose?

Which University should I choose in Australia for Economics?

  • I have scored a total of 11points or ( ACC ) based on my A level results. My A is for Economics. I would like to do a double degree in Economics/Business/Arts. My criteria for my university of choice would be reputation and being able to find a job in the future. The cost is not so much a factor for me. I have gone to IDP and I am thinking of joining ANU or UOM. I still have some time to choose. Now my main worries are that: 1. Will a double degree put me in a better stead in the future than a single degree? 2.Which is the best university in economics in Australia? 3.Will it be difficult for me to find a job in Australia, during and after my degree course? 4.How good are Australian Universities compared to its neighbouring countries? I would like to hear from your experiences how Australia is like as it will help in deciding which university I would choose. Thank You!!!...

  • Answer:

I am a Unimelb student, and from my peers, Economics in Melb Uni is considered the top in Aus. Well, in terms of location, a university in the middle of a cosmopolitan city will certainly give you opprtunity in industrial links and tranings. As you might realize, melb uni is moving towards Melbourne Model, which you might want to research more about it. The logic behind double degree is that, it trains students to have a wider range of skills, and the student can adapt to market needs easier than those who have single degree. In terms of depth, well, you should challenge yourself to maintain honours 80+ all the way. Finding a job, it really depends on your grades. No company would want to employ someone who always got a pass in his/her exams, as long as you are good, you can always get a job and PR here. (tip: Melbourne is set to overcome Sydney as the biggest city in Aus in 2028, with its population growth highest in Australia). More people = more service oriented industrial needs = more jobs created = more chance to work, of course, unless an oil triggered worldwide financial crisis kicks in. Worldwide reputation, most leading universities have ties for student exchange with other universities, so, it also depends on how good you are in the faculty. How good is Australian Universities compared to neighbouring countries? The only prominent neighbour Australia has is New Zealand, and you can check the university rankings for the strength of the major universities you know. Good luck.
