How to get into a boarding school in the UK?

Should I go to boarding school in the UK? (PLEASE give me some advice!!)?

  • I'm 13, and I live in Hong Kong. I'm in the second year of secondary school here - Year 8. My parents want me to go to boarding school in the UK in September 2009, and they've got 3 choices for me: 1. Casterton School, in Cumbria 2. Talbot Heath School, in Bournemouth 3. St. Swithun's School, in Winchester I could stay in Hong Kong for the rest of secondary school if I wanted to but then my parents say it'll be harder to get into a British university if I do. Unfortunately, they don't want me going to America for university. I've already visited the schools, but I still have no idea on what I should do!! p.s I don't think I've got any hope, but I really do want a career in music when I grow up. I don't care what career it is, it just has to be something in the music field...though personally, I've always wanted to start a band...so which boarding school would be best for music? Is life in boarding school hard!??

It depends on the person. If you feel that you're not done growing up with your family then maybe you should stay with them in Hong Kong. However, few students get the chance to attain a higher education like one that is offered at boarding school. It is an incredible way to make new friends and connections and gain valuable life experience. Plus this chance to go abroad on your own is amazing in itself. If you are independent and ambitious then I suggest you take advantage of this opportunity. If it's music you are interested in, then I'm sure that these schools have incredible funding for their music department, etc. There are so many opportunities at these institutions!

go to the boarding school were most of the graduates go to cambridge or oxford. go to boarding school. its so much fun. it must be boys and girls. single sex schools are soooo not fun. i would know. boarding school is hard in academics. but its worth it
