What is the best way to study abroad in Madrid, Spain?
-
I want to study abroad in Madrid, Spain. I don't really mind if I'm only a part time student, and this way I may be able to work or babysit for a family. I wish to live with a host family and go to a University in Madrid. Does anyone know of some great programs that allow for this? I don't really know where to begin with my research.. I go to a community college here in the USA, they don't offer a program for me to study in Spain for a semester or a full year. I'm more just wanting to be in school there to keep up with some studies, but I don't mind that it may set me back a year in my studies here in the US (I haven't decided on a major yet so I'm just taking Gen Eds). Thanks for your answers! and if you could, I'm not interested in your input on whether i SHOULD or SHOULDN'T study abroad this upcoming fall, I just want to know the best way about doing it is. thanks again

Answer:
What about researching universities in madrid and seeing if they offer exchange programs? You won't likely stay with a host family if doing an exchange through universities. If you haven't decided on a major why not just take a gap year through an exchange program such as AFS or YFU? Live with a host family and attend a local "high school" They do have age limits of 20 or 21 depending on the program(I'll point out they are more flexible on the age issue for summer programs). I just thought I would throw out a few more options and am sorry if I was no help

It would be easier (and cheaper) for you to finish community college and study abroad while you're finishing your BA at a 4 year university. That way you'll be working towards your degree and paying the same amount of tuition while you're abroad. Trying to go over there and take a few classes part time might be more difficult and more expensive than doing a traditional study abroad semester.
