Applying for university in the US from the UK.?

Hi i'm 16 and live in the UK. I'm planning to apply to an american uni when i'm in college. there are a couple of things you need to do. And since money isn't a problem, that's a big chunky paragraph i can leave out! thank goodness. :L GPA means grade point average. We don't have it in the UK so you can leave the part of a form that asks you it blank. :) What you need for an application? You will need to take some American standardized testing. The SAT's (completely different from the year 9 SAT's). this is to compare you to other students in America/the world etc. To register for these tests (you have to take the critical reasoning SAT which consists of writing, math and reasoning as well as two subject tests of your choice depending on the uni you apply for) you will need to register for the college board website (the american version of our UCAS basically). There is a small fee of $49 for the Main SAT and $29 for each subject test. There are various test centers in the UK depending on where you live... You should do these tests in the first year of college so you can get them in on time. In addition, you will need to complete a common application, give in two teacher recommendations, write two admissions essays (topics vary with uni's- they will tell you on there website) and show that you have the finances to pay for it (or apply for financial aid if need be) which apparently you don't so yeah. Give them proof by like copies of bank statements and stuff. You will also need to give in your 'mid year report'- so your predicted grades. You will also need to set yourself apart from other students by taking part in LOTS of extra-curricular's/clubs and maybe do some volunteering (they're very into that over there- though i was planning to do it either way to help out with stuff and yeah). You will have a lot to juggle in college so make sure you set time apart to revise for the SAT's too! :) Make sure you adhere to the deadlines that the uni's have set in place- there should be a calender somewhere on their website' admissions sections. They are normally in the January of your second year so you should get your SAT's done in may of your first year and apply over the summer at the end of year 12. Of course you will also need a student visa! They (the universities) will help you with this once you are admitted. Now on to where? If you can afford the uni's without aid (around $200,000 for all four years) then i recommend UCLA (university of California Las Angeles (which i can't apply to because of money)). Its in a huge city and its got a great climate! You should also go for USC (University of Southern California (in LA)), NYU (New York University- loads of celebs go there and its a really famous college), Columbia (this is an ivy league school so you really have to show a lot to get into here (its where i'm planning to apply so see ya there if you do!)).
