Cheap Study Abroad/Student Exchange Programs?
-
I would really love to travel to a foreign country over the summer. I'm 17 years old (a senior in high school) and I've never left the States, yet I have a real thirst for learning about other cultures. Does anybody know of any study abroad or student exchange programs which offer very, very cheap prices for going overseas? My family really doesn't make a lot of money, I'm even on free lunch at school. Or can someone direct me to a website which offers study abroad or student exchange programs, and maybe a scholarship site? I tried doing this research myself but I've spent an hour searching to no avail. I'm not very good at finding things online... Thank you for any sort of information, I really appreciate this help!

Answer:
I dont now your definition of cheap but the really cheap ones are the ones that are a scam or scr#w you over(excuse my language). Okay I know what its like being in your position(my family doesn't make a lot plus I have five siblings and yes I got the free lunch thing too) that's why I earned all the money for the trip with a job. I would not trust any other programs than Rotary, YFU, and AFS. They have a long standing good repuatation, and are trustworthy. YFU summer programs average about 7-9 thousand dollars(and that is cheap), AFS is about the same. Now Rotary is the cheapest but has a tendancy to send you to the country you didn't choose(also I believe Rotary require excellent grades not sure though). I'm not as familar with AFS as I am with YFU. For the summer programs you can be up to twenty in YFU so that gives you plenty of time to save money(it would take about a year or two by yourself but your parents might help). Point is don't trust the cheap ones, go with the ones with a good rep. www.afs.org www.yfu.org your town should have a local rotary clud.
