I'm planning to be an exchange student. I'm not sure about the availability of programs to England as a whole since most of us go with programs that prefer or even require us to go to a country that speaks a different language. However, I suggest-no I outright WARN you not to go with Two Worlds United (TWU). There have been tons of stories about their shady dealings. If want to hear more about why you shouldn't go through them, here's a whole thread devoted to it on an exchange student forum. http://www.cultures-shocked.org/forum/showthread.php?t=225 There's ASSE, but you have to be 15-18.5. http://www.asse.com/United_States/summer.htm Center for Cultural Exchange (CCI) is 16+ only http://cci-exchange.com/abroad/homestayteens.shtml I don't know about Intrax, but I didn't hear anything bad. http://www.intraxstudyabroad.com/the-basics/summer-programs I think someone implied that EF was decent but I can't figure out that site to save my life. http://www.asse.com/United_States/summer.htm Good luck if you go on exchange. I would just like you to know that if you consider other non-English speaking countries, your possibilities open up A LOT. For some odd reason, it's somewhat difficult for U.S. students to do exchange in the UK. On the other hand, there's a complete scholarship for Germany. YFU has tons of partial scholarships for Japan. Then there are plenty of other countries to consider with and without scholarships. So if you ever decide to go to different countries on exchange, I suggest: >Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) - http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYouth/YouthPrograms/RotaryYouthExchange/Pages/ridefault.aspx > Youth for Understanding (YFU) {they have a semester program with England though} - http://www.yfu-usa.org/ > American Field Service (AFS) - http://www.usa.afs.org/usa_en/home > ASSE - http://www.asse.com/United_States/about_asse.htm

Hi! First, I'd like to really encourage you to take at least a semester or a year program -- and to a country where you will have another language! That's one of the primary benefits of an exchange program and you shouldn't miss out! Right now you are a bit young. You must be between 15-18 years for an exchange. I highly recommend going in your junior year. That way you can arrange your schedule so you can graduate on time and also have the fun of your senior year with your friends. The fact that you know before entering high school that you want to do this will be REALLY helpful! You then need to pick an exchange program. Make sure it is CSIET listed otherwise you may have trouble getting credit for your year AND non-listed programs have no oversight or recourse if something goes wrong. You can find the listing at www.csiet.org. Generally, AFS, Aspect, Rotary and YFU are all reputable and your counselor can give you a recommendation as well. For lots more information, check out http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/ That's a site written by exchange students and it covers the entire experience from application to return home. Good luck and I really hope you get to do this! EDIT: I concur with the warning about Two Worlds United. It is NOT CSIET listed and has huge problems!
