How to become a foreign exchange student from Scotland to study in America ?

  • I am a 17 year old student from Scotland and would like to study my last year at school in America somewhere. I have no clue how to go about this could anyone help?

  • Answer:

You are not comparing apples with apples. The two education systems - UK and US - are very different indeed and if you were (frankly) foolish enough to think you could cover all the ground needed to achieve good results in just one year then you are doing no more than dreaming. Plus, of course, the corollary of that is, you throw away all the years of study you put into the UK education system. In short, lose-lose. Get on with your life in Scotland. If you want to go to the USA, search 'cheap flights' in google and put some more money in Richard Branson's pockets to fund his nut-case activities..

US students go to high school to 12th grade, about age 18. Then apply for college/university. You will need A levels and take the SAT to apply to US colleges. Go to www.collegeboard.com For high school you could not just come over on your own. You would have to do a foreign exchange program. It is too late to apply to college for 2012 as an international student. US colleges would run $30,000+ per year for tuition and room and board.
