How can I get to America for University?

  • I'm nearly sixteen but I like to think about things in advance and know where I'm going. So I hate England, and I'm dying to go to either Baltimore or Chicago. I'm from the UK and hoping to study English Language & Literature after going to British college to do my A Levels. How to I even begin to make a start on applying for American University? I'd need a scholarship because I'm from a lower-middle class family and I couldn't afford it without one. However, if I can't go, can I do English courses (in England) that would mean I could go to America for a year? My brother's currently living in Morrocco because he studies arabic at leeds university. I don't know how I could incorportate doing an English degree with getting a year in America though. Please help! Should I study out there or not? How do I even begin to apply or anything? I have no idea what I'm doing, I just know I want to go to America so badly!

    You are not going to get a scholarship. Plan on paying $30,000+ per year. Go to an UK school and do study aboard program to the US

US education is among the world's most costly, and the cities you are interested in have a pretty high cost of living (tho not as bad as NYC, Boston, LA, SFO, etc!). Not gonna get a scholarship, especially not for Eng Lang & Lit. Better options: lots of UK unis have study abroad programs with US unis - Junior Year Abroad, Summer Abroad, or similar programs might be easier on your budget. Best place to study Eng Lang & Lit is Oxford or Cambridge anyway, especially undergrad. Another option is do undergrad in UK, then come to US for grad school.
