NEED ADVICE ABOUT NURSING?

Need Nursing School Career Advice Please?

• Hi guys, I am a 23 year old male and I need some nursing school career advice. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I graduated last May with my bachelors in sociology, and I would like to go back to school to become a registered nurse. I am a compassionate person, I really like helping people, and hopefully, there will be job security with this career. I have about 20k student loans from undergrad, and I would like to know what is the best way to become a RN. My ultimate goal is to become a registered nurse with more managerial duties as opposed to bed side, although I don't mind bed side because I am a compassionate person. I am thinking about taking the pre recs that I need for about a year at my local community college to save money, and then applying to an associate degree of nursing program at a community college as well. Then, while working at a hospital, have my tuition reimbursed to get my BSN? What do you think? I am thinking 1 year- pre recs...2 years- associates.. work while back to school to get bsn- 2 more years? Also, what do you think would be an average starting salary for someone like me who would just graduate with an associates. Anyone with experience, please give me your adivce. Thanks for any input

  Since you have bachelors degree have you thought about doing an accelerated second degree program? They are generally about a year and a half. You will still need all the pre reqs. So it will take you about 2 1/2 years and you will have a BSN. It is more expensive though. Also be aware that the job market for new grad nurses is pretty bad right now. So any advantage you have helps. Also many hospitals aren't hiring ADNs.
