High School Study Abroad loans?

Study abroad and student loans?

  • So. I have the opportunity to study abroad this summer in Ireland. Instead of taking classes however, I would be interning at a major corporation. I would receive full transferable credit for interning abroad. The only catch is... I don't have enough money to go. I calculated out the payments and I will be short $10000 if i choose to go on this trip. So, my question is... is studying (interning) abroad worth it in the long run, if i'm going to have to take out a loan? I don't qualify for financial aid and working while going to school isn't much of an option for me. My parents refuse to help out and I do plan on going to grad school which only means more loans for me then. I'm a sophomore now but I really want to go on the trip this summer. Anyone with experience in studying abroad and loans, PLEASE tell me what you think. I really am very unsure of what to do. Thank you!

  • Answer:

I took out $30,000 in Stafford and other loans in order to do a masters in the UK. It was the best investment in my life. The best part is that now I am working in Scotland, earning in £s and am paying back those loans like they are nothing!
