Answer:
Take the TOEFL since English is your second language to prove proficency in English. Most Indians do not have too much trouble with this exam. Take the SAT and SAT subject tests in Math 2 and a Science (Physics, Chemistry or Biology). The SAT measures your Critical Reading, Mathematics reasoning and Writing skills. With your application you will need to send in application fee (less than $100), a copy of your official transcripts and recommendation letters from probably two of your professors. If you need financial assistance, it is available at the top engineering schools such as MIT, Stanford and CalTech. State Universities are not as well known for giving financial Aid to foreign students. To get accepted into top schools, at the very least, you will have to score exceptionally high scores on the standardized tests (SAT and SAT subject tests) and excellent performance on your high school classes. Finally it will come down to your essays and your extra curricular activities. To get more information on these tests and info on colleges go to this website: http://www.collegeboard.org/

There are quite a few things to consider: Academic Program – What are the specific courses you need? Will they be offered at the appropriate level in the US? US universities have course descriptions and information online, so you can start your research now. Language ability – Hows your English? Most schools require either a language proficiency note from an English professor or a high enough score on an English language exam like the TOEFL. Type and size of institution – Small institutions may offer more personal attention and small class sizes, whereas large universities may have more course options. Location - Major cities offer many attractions, but it may be easier to meet people and feel at home in a smaller town. Housing and meals - Living with a family, in a student residence, or in an apartment involves different levels of independence and integration. Financial considerations – The price of schools in the US varies wildly between state schools and private schools. Chances of placement – Some schools accept more international students than others. Do the research on many different schools and apply to many to increase your chances. Queens College has a great program to improve your English and then work towards an Engineering degree.
