Which is Better: TOEFL or IELTS?

Which are the countries in which TOEFL is accepted? Is IELTS more widely accepted? Which is better?

  • Is the TOEFL accepted in universities in countries like New Zealand, Canada or Ireland, or is only IELTS taken into account there? Which has a better reputation , and which is better?

    TOEFL is a test mostly used by US academia. IELTS is a test often used by immigration agencies. Check with the universities on your short list which test they prefer. It is quite possible that one university insists on one and another university in the same country insists on another test.

In my experience IELTS is more widely accepted however some countries accept both. Check with the country you intend to study / live in.
