Working in France for the summer to perfect my french?

What job could i do in France over the holidays to help me learn French?

  • I am starting uni in September on a 3 year degree, i have a basic level of french but i couldn't hold a conversation. I am hopefully going to learn some French when i start uni as i want to do a whole years placement in France in 2 years time. To help me with the language before my placement i want to spend the whole of next summer out there working. Any ideas of what i could do? I dont really wanna work somewhere like an English hotal as i wont pick much up. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks xx

    The job where you will have to speak. Depending on how adventurous you are you could take on tour guide position in Paris or you could work in a cafe or as a shop assistant in a market. French people are very friendly.

Well why don't you try as an aupair? Sure you would have to work but you could have the chance to live with french people ; to practice and improve your level. I tried it in Ireland (I am French actually) and was really enhusiastic about it !!

You could work in a resturaunt because you could really learn quickly there, and then sometimes there are tourists who know how to speak english, so it works both ways. You could also take a french class there!

hey, I'm in Germany right now and I'm also looking for a job. It might be a little bit harder then you'd expect. You can always get a job as an English tutor, I know what you mean but at least it'll pay the rent. You can work in a very touristic area they might be more linient of language skills. Most places I applied to here in Germany told me my German had to be perfect no ok, not I get by, perfect, so it's really hard. Call your country's embassy there they might be able to help.

The ready-erected camping companies (Eurocamp, etc.) are always on the look-out for people to work for them during the long summer holidays. From my experience of such reps working in France most of the people with whom they deal are British but there are always people of other nationalities on the sites and, of course, any problems needed to be sorted may well be with French nationals. Anyway, all off-duty time could be used to improve your French if you make an effort to converse in french at every opportunity. You will also have the advantage of working with people of your own age and interests which will help get over the fact that your are away from home.

You should work in a pub or as a nanny you will learn the language good then. Mixing with people is basically the best way and so probably the pub one is your best option. Have fun France is a great place.

Disney could be fun and you ll meet a lot of mates there too
