Which is the best art university in the UK?

What's the best way for a Taiwanese national to study Art/Design at a university in the UK?

  • My friend is Taiwanese living in Taiwan and wants to study Art and/or Design at a university in the UK, preferably London or Bristol or nearby. The main issues as far as I can see: 1) Visa - he'd need to get a student visa and for this will need to apply via some international student scheme. 2) Money - the average wage (and his wage) in Taiwan is about 20GBP (30USD) per day. Once he can get to England on a student visa he can work and earn enough money to support himself, but saving up on his current wage is very difficult, so we need to find how to get him a visa and to England for the minimum "startup cost". He can stay with me so living costs will not be an issue at first - just getting a visa, getting into a university, and getting a job. We're doing a lot of research into this at the moment, but were wondering if anyone had any advice/insight into the problem that could help us out. Thanks to anyone who can help!

  • Answer:

First he needs a confirmed offer of a place at uni. Then he needs to have enough money to pay the fees and living costs. Then he needs to apply for a student visa while he is still in his home country. He would not be allowed to work here. A student visa is for studying, not for working.
