Advice on going to University in Chicago?

  • I would like to go to University in America, Chicago. I live in London at the moment but my plan used to be to study in the UK or Scotland and then travel the world for a year, finally setting up home in Chicago and submitting a Thesis for a PhD there. However, I would like to go to somewhere like Northwestern perhaps, to study Child Psychology and then go on to Teen Psychology. Can anyone give me any advice on how to go about this and the differences between USA University applications and the UK way of doing things because I know there are some differences. I know this is quite a complex question but loads of advice is very much appreciated. Thank you soo much. ^^

  • Answer:

You need to look at their website and see the process for an international student to apply. If you want to start as an undergrad, you will probably need to take the SATs. US universities have a lot of foreign students and can give scholarships, but you would not be eligible for federal (cheap) loans and grants. Therefore, it can be very expensive ($40K p.a.). You apply to US universities individually and it is a time consuming process costing a couple of hundred dollars each.
