How to study in Canada?

I want to study abroad in Canada for a semester - how do I go about doing this?

  • I live in the UK and have family in Canada so I would love to study over there for a semester. But I haven't got a clue what I would need to do - I've had a look at my University's web page and it seems like they offer a couple of scholarships to study abroad for a semester so I could apply for them but would I have to pay the rest of the study fee etc? (I think the scholarship is £500) also what Universities could I study at? I have one in mind but how do I know if they would take me on? Would I need a visa etc? By the way I could live with family so housing wouldn't be a problem. Thanks in advance, I really don't know where to start first so any information you have would really be appreciated! :-) And I don't know if this is relevant but I'll be in my final year at uni and I would like to study over there for the first semester :-) Thank you!!!

  • Answer:

Well if your going to live with your family the logical school to go to would be the one closest to where they live. Apply to whatever schools are close enough to commute to daily. Did you see if your school usually works with a specific university there for study abroad? sometimes they do and you don't get to choose the school. Look at the admissions page for transfers and international students but they might not accept people for just a semester so you might want to e-mail them. Yes, you would have to pay for the classes in Canada, unless you get a scholarship or some kind of financial aid, but you'll have to find out how all of that works in Canada. You will probably need a visa to get a job, or you could try to do a work study with the school. If you don't work, I don't know if you'll need a visa since you'll only be there for a short time and you'll be living with relatives. Look it up. Good luck!!
