We're moving to LA and i'm planning to study at UCLA.how hard will it be for a Filipino like me to get in.?

well, i'm currently 18 and i've completed one year (two semesters) of BS Psychology from the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila. I'm currently in the Philippines right now and migrating to the US by January. Since we're going to live specifically in Los Angeles, i plan to attend UCLA and take majors along the lines of English or History maybe. i've never been abroad and i'm scared that not a single decent university would accept me when i get there. would transferring or getting admitted to UCLA be hard for someone like me? i may be a little too much for me but i'm really having problems in estimating how good my Filipino education in terms of meeting American college standards. i am a pretty good student back in my freshman year and have above average grades per semester and just a few bad grades in a couple of subjects. i have no problem in transfering to one of the elite universities here in the philippines because i'm confident of my capabilities and intellect. i could write and speak in English better than most people and i have very good if not excellent communication skills. what bothers me really is that since i've never been to a foreign land and the US no less, i fear that i'd be only disappointing myself by trying to get admitted to UCLA. should i still consider transferring? what do US immigrants like me have to do to get in to a decent american university? how do i prepare? will i have trouble getting in since in the philippines, we only get 4 years of High School and graduate at the age of 16 on average? what the heck are GPAs? i have grades ranging from 87 to 92 during high school and grades of 2.25 to 1.0 in college. but i don't really know if US universities would acknowledge that if they have a different grading systems. what could you suggest in general? will i have to become a freshaman again to get admitted or could i just transfer to UCLA for my sophomore year. i have my transcript of records already and i'm wondering if that would suffice. i really need help and i'm really really concerned about my future. any word of advice would help me. thank you very much.

Answer:
I think you should contact their admissions office or the international students services office. Even if it turns out you need to start as a freshman year, I don't think it would be such a bad thing considering you've only done 2 semesters in Manila. I'm not sure how it works in Philippines but American universities usually assign letters as grades (A, B, C, D, and F). Each grade has a different percentage and GPA value. I forgot the exact value but grade A has a percentage in the upper 90's to 100. The GPA (Grade Point Average) is around 3.5 to 4 (4.0 scale is most common, 4.0 being the highest grade possible). B has a lower percentage and GPA value. C is lower than B, and so on. GPA is basically a mean of all your grades. Sorry can't be more of a help.
