  • Answer:

Not much. You could get a job as a museum qurator. Or depending on the type of history degree. You could become an archiologist or something like that.

Here read this. it gave me hope for the future. Im a history major too and although its not a "technical" degree, we do have some very refined skills; namely, that we communicate well. We are not boxed in and thats to our advantage. An accountant is only that. Same for an engineer. We take heaps of info in, analyze it, and create meaning out of it. That useful anywhere. Besides us, who likes to study history? Not many, but its useful and needed and we can do meaningful work. Yes i may teach someday, but i want to do other stuff too. I saw museum cureator on here. Thats one of my aims too. Anyways heres the encouraging link, cheers! - http://www.mcm.edu/academic/depts/history/career.htm

Work in a museum, do research for people or organizations, study an event from history on your own time. Go to different countries and do research there, become a writer, the sky is the limit. I'm pursuing a history degree. And looking forward to researching Slavery in the South and going to the Caribbean and Brazil to study and research the effects of Slavery. Also you can join expeditions/ research group and discover ancient civilizations and lost worlds.

There's plenty of things to do. You could run a museum, be a consultant for the CIA, if you're good with lineage. You could be out on the field, archaeological consultant or something. Teaching, however, would probably be the easy way out, if you are happy with it.

Why would you study a subject for 4 years if you didn't actually know why you were doing it or what you wanted to do with it?! You can carry on studying- do a Masters and possibly combine your great degree with another subject, like anthropology, archeology or something interesting, maybe continue with the history but hone it in on a specialist subject- that way you begin to widen your field and also have a couple more years to settle on a job/ path you are really into. It is better to go into teaching if you actually have a passion for teaching, rather than just because it is an obvious/ easy option. The kids and students get more out of it when their teacher actually wants to be teaching them.

become a manager at a tanning salon.... (true story..history major, too) basically any assistant manager position, it sucks but like any jobs that don't require a 4 year degree... at least chances are you will be the most qualified and get the job...
