What is the first thing I should do to start rotary student exchange?
-
I have just started year 10... I am very keen on doing the exchange for 2013 (when I'm in year 12)... Is there anything I can do NOW to do the rotary exchange? Will I be selected instantly to do he exchange or do i have to be chosen from interviews? How long will this process take?

Answer:
I was a Rotary exchange student when I was in year 10. Since Rotary is more of a scholarship type program, the best thing you can do now is make sure you keep your grades up (I know Rotary in the U.S. requires at least a "B" average) and be sure to stay involved in your community and your school. Do your best to exceed their requirements so that you have the best chance of being selected. Keep in mind that some countries have language requirements (France for example) so if you're looking on going to a country with such requirements, best start learning. When I went, the application process took a full year (though I was sent by a district that was just starting their exchange program) It will be best to start the process the summer before or at the very beginning of your 11th year. You won't be selected instantly. You first send in a prelimenary application, and if that is accepted they will send you the full application. Rotary will interview you and you will be asked to visit a couple of their meetings so that they can get to know you better. I wish you the best of luck! Being an exchange student is truely the experience of a lifetime!

im planning on going on an exchange for my 11th year. With rotary, you have to send a preliminary applications approximately one year in advance, so in September of your grade 11, you would send that. After wards, there are meetings and interviews with you and your parents both sepperatilly and by yourself. If you do well, you will be selected to advance at the district level( acceptance at this level is almost always guaranteed) what they want to do is make sure that what the people who interviewed you, were correct. Following that, you will have meetings with all the other accepted students threw out the year to help you for your journey abroad. For the moment, the best thing you can do is GET A JOB! Money is going to be one of your biggest worries once time comes, its best to have money right now then get a job a few months before you depart! Even though rotary is unexpensive, you do have to pay for the plane ticket and insurance etc. Also the personal spending money is a big factor. If you havnt already convinced or talked to your parents about this, the fact that you will have money saved up will really show them that you are mature and ready for the trip! i Also suggest to have a meeting with your school counselor to talk about it more ! hope i helped!
