Summer student exchange?

What happens when you are a foreign exchange student during summer?

  • I want to go to Japan as a foreign exchange student. Does it make a difference if you go during summer. I would rather go during summer, but in Japan do they still have like regular school? Would it be the same as if i was going to go during my school year?

  • Answer:

This depends on when during the summer you go. If you go during August, most schools are on their summer break. However, many Japanese schools are still in session during July and June (exceptions to this are probably American or International schools) so you would probably go to school during these months. Your program may differ on their stance towards summer schooling as some schools aren't willing to have a student for only a month or two. The basic Japanese school time line is that their schools run on trimesters and the year begins in Mid to late April and there are no long term breaks until Mid to Late July. There is usually a month long break after this and the 2nd trimester begins early September and runs until Mid December. At this time there is another break and the 3rd and final trimester begins early January and runs until early March.
