How is life in Australian Colleges?
-
Please I'm planning on studying in Australia, but I would love to know how teenagers live there. Is it something like what you see in the movies of American colleges? (with Fraternities and sororities for example). Are there a lot of parties? Do they drink/smoke?? I am focusing more on the social aspects, cause I know that academically Australia is a great place to study :) Thanks!!

Answer:
life in Australia usually change based on-the university, studying in Australia is really cool, you can work as a student visa but is not as easy to remove. but I think it is that you should see the master's program that interests you and that is not full time so you can work. I think Studying in Australia experience has been better. I put a page where you'll find info on schools in Australia and reviews by students on Schools http://www.hotcourses.com.pk/study/pakistani-students/study-in-australia/9/abroad.html

University life is nothing like America or what you see in movies. I think its pretty chill here and like you dont have to go to all your lectures well most people dont as its not compulsary. I think most of us just go clubbing more and go to parties and yeah we do smoke and drink....that OG KUSHHH ;) ;) <3

You are very smart to ask such question before you make your decision because i didn't really care and chose to come to Australia. It really depends which university you choose to go to over here. I am currently studying in UWS and I am the only international student in the class and I felt so lonely because i don't get friends. It is really hard to get along with the locals as you don't get to interact with each other very much (also depends what course you are taking). I hated uni and i can't wait to graduate seriously. But if you choose to go UTS, UNSW, USYD, Wollongong, Newcastle or Macquarie university, you will be having lots of fun because they have alot of international students there and you can get along with each other and help each other. All of you share the common settings which is AWAY from home and you want to get to know people and all your friends could help you. Drink and smoke is the common issue here. Which country are you from? My tips is to choose university that is attended but alot of international students. You will feel the sense of belonging and enjoy throughout your studies. Don't make the wrong decision like me, without doing much research and just follow my cousin's footstep whom grew up in Sydney, so it is the wrong choice.

Hi, It's great to hear that you're interested in studying in Australia. Australian university life is quite different to what you would see in American movies, which is something others have mentioned above! That said, you will find that most universities have clubs and societies which will allow you to meet new people. You will also be able to interact with other international students and share your experiences. Likewise, you may want to explore the option of accommodation in a student share-house, which will allow you to quickly make friends. This can be in the form of campus apartments or off-campus living. You can read about studying in Australia, including living costs and course entry requirements here: http://www.studiesinaustralia.com/studying-in-australia Good luck! We don't have Colleges, we have University's and no fraternities or sororities (that I know of) but ...yep they do party, smoke and drink. Nothing here is like you see in the movies.

American unis are like nothing else in the world. We do not have sororities or really any type of social aspect to our unis. University is only a part of our students life (because most students still live at home and those that dont have to work 2-4 days a week to live) and our students keep most of their school friends.
