I am getting a foreign exchange student this summer for a month and I don't know what to do with him?
-
I have really only one friend that I hangout with but she is going to be with her boyfriend all summer. I am an only child and have no cousins close. My family also doesn't have a lot of money to go on vacations. I just would like to have some ideas to do this summer with my exchange student so it is a good experience for him.

Answer:
What are you planning to do with yourself all summer? Is there a beach or lake nearby? Most public libraries have lots of interesting activities, author talks, etc. Some communities have free or cheap outdoor concerts in summer. Be sure to take your exchange student to all the sights around town, let them get to know their way around, see & experience day-to-day life in your community. Go to the mall one day - not to shop but to window-shop, maybe get some lunch at the food court. Go for walks to explore. Check your library's bulletin board & newsletter for upcoming events - or ask the librarian. Lots of libraries have a community bulletin board to post notices of concerts, school plays & other local events. Go to your town's historical society one day to learn more about your town & its history. Check out upcoming events in your local newspaper for interesting things to do for free or cheap. Got kayaks, tennis rackets, golf clubs, rollerblades, whatever? Go play sports at local parks, skateboard track, tennis courts, etc. There's probably a zillion things to do around your town/city, and lots of them won't cost much, if anything at all. You do not need to take exchange students on some exotic vacation, or DisneyWorld or something! Have a picnic in your backyard for some classmates to introduce your exchange student to people you know. School teams have any summer practices? Stop by & watch for a bit, say hi to people you know & introduce your guest. You might get to know some classmates better just because you have a foreign exchange student staying with you for a while.

Maybe, it will work out better than you think. Try finding out what he is interested in learning over here. You don't have to have alot of money to go on a vacation or do fun stuff. Try camping, going to parties where you know people will be open minded about the fact that he is exchange student. Basically let him see what you do to have fun without getting in trouble. P.S. There is also the movies, games, video arcades etc...
