Will America ever get the Tata Nano, world's cheapest car?

  • I think it is sad that the cheapest car you can buy in America is $10,000+. I would like to see the Tata Nano available here. Does anybody know the likelihood of that happening?

    Like DrCustom said. Its cheap because it doesn't come close to meeting the US (or almost any other country) crash or emissions laws. To make it legal would probably cost well over $10k. Its actually cheaper to design a car to meet requirements than to modify something later. With 33 horsepower, the Nano is capable of 65 miles an hour. Higher level models will cost more and come with air-conditioning. Sun visors and radios are extra. Does that really sound like a car you want? A $2,500 10 yr old car is safer, can actually drive on the highway, has a radio, and A/C. You could crash that thing into a Huffy and the only person walking away unhurt would be the person on the Huffy.

Will not happen in America until this car can pass crash safety standards and emmisions standards. By the time that vehicle is built to pass these standards it will no longer be that cheap plus you will have import taxation on this vehicle.. A person interested in this vehicle might also take a moment and think about the consequences of getting hit at 45 MPH in something like this.. NOT a pretty image!!!

I do not think that the Tata Nano meats any and all of the safety requirements to be sold in the USA.
